Course Description

	Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, and Structural Kinesiology A comprehensive course in the structure and function of the human body, emphasizing the skeletal, muscular, and the organ systems.  Pathology is the study of disease.  To practice safety, massage therapists need a basic understanding of the pathologic processes.  Structural kinesiology is the study of the articular system, and types of movements permitted by diathrodial joints.

	Theory and Demonstration of Massage Students learn the proper procedure of massage concerning the protection of both client and massage therapist. Students will also learn about record keeping, hygiene, theory, technique for specific conditions, contraindications of massage, draping, and the assessment of the client's condition and the general technique to be applied. After completing this training, the student will be able to perform: The basic theories for physiologic effects of massage methods and manipulations. To sequence massage methods and manipulations into basic flow patterns. A one hour full-body massage using the methods and manipulations, which we have presented below. Learn our patented one-hour full-body massage.  It combines Swedish (Classical Western Massage) with elements of Anmo (Chinese, Korean), Shiatsu (Japanese), and trigger point therapy (American).  This modality reflects the cultural diversity which is unique to Hawaii.

	Course Description Preparation for the State of Hawaii Massage Therapy Written Examination We will prepare the student to take and successfully pass the State examination.  The student will take two examinations during phase I and three State of Hawaii Mock exams during phase II.  The student must pass all of these exams with a score of 75% or better.

	Course Description Phase II: 440 Hours of Practical Training This is the hands-on or clinical phase of the program.  This phase starts the day after phase I is completed.  Students must complete seventeen weeks of consecutive training.  Each week will contain five training sessions and each session must be five hours in duration.  To provide some flexibility, the student may choose which five days he/she will train.  The training will consist of the following: Clinical Operations Sanitation - including the application of Department of Health regulations, linens, and towels. Office Procedures - including answering phones, taking appointments, and client rapport. Record Keeping Advanced Techniques - including the observation of classroom instructors and consulting. Hands-on Supervised Massage Students can only practice manipulations and techniques that were taught in phase I, or the advanced techniques which were taught in phase II.

ADVANCED MASSAGE THERAPY MODALITIES

The following classes are optional.  You may select any number of classes or none at all.  The class hours will be applied toward fulfilling the 440 hours of practical training.

	National Certification Board For Therapeutic Massage And Bodywork This class is designated to satisfy all of the academic requirements to sit for the National Examination.  It is packed with essential information and reviews the concepts, principles, and examination questions.

	Lomilomi Massage Lomilomi Massage was interwoven within the ancient Hawaiian cultural, religious, and spiritual experience.  We will explore history as well as demonstrate and practice the massage manipulations and techniques that make it unique.

	Sports Massage Sports Massage prepares students to address basic needs of athletes.  Techniques include trigger points, friction, compression, petrissage, stretching, and range of motion exercises.  Multiple techniques are taught to enhance performance, prevent injury, and decrease recovery time.

	Seated Massage Students learn a massage sequence using massage chairs that can be taken into the workplace.  The manipulations are a combination of Anma, Swedish and Shiatsu that are performed with the client fully clothed.

	Anma Full-body Massage Anma Massage is Japanese massage that originated in ancient China 4,000 years ago where it was called Anmo Massage.  It was practiced as a healing art built around the concepts of Chi, Yin/Yang, meridians, and tsubos.  However, this class will focus on the hands-on application of massage manipulations such as stroking, kneading, pressing, percussion, and stretching rather than the medical aspects of Anma Massage.  We will sequence these manipulations into a 45 minute full-body massage.

	Foot Reflexology Reflexology is a specialized technique focused on the feet of an individual. As a healing art, foot massage has a far-reaching effect throughout the body. We will focus our instruction on learning the various hands-on manipulations and sequencing techniques.

	Ja Fa Ma Facial Massage Ja Fa Ma Facial Massage is another specialized version of Anma full-body massage.  Anma Facial Massage utilizes many of the Swedish manipulations, but there are several techniques which are unique to Anma Massage.  You will learn a 45-minute sequence designed to enhance the beauty of the face.

	Hawaiian Hot Stone Massage Learn how pohaku is heated and integrated in a ancient massage sequence. Discover how to open the Chakras of the body to the life-force of the universe and enhance the experience with quided visualizations and exotic sounds.

	Carpal Tunnel Massage (prevention) Learn a comprehensive massage sequence which is designed to counteract muscle and nerve displacement which often leads to carpal tunnel syndrome. Learn exercises and hand / finger which ameliorates repetitive stress syndromes. This class focuses on prevention and is ideal for office workers.
